Mice and rat problems are unfortunately a problem that many New Zealanders have to deal with at some point in their lives. We offer a program with tamper-proof bait stations (which can only be opened with a key), situating stations in suitable but discreet areas.
This program will be carried out over a period of 4-5 weeks in which we will inspect the problem area, identify the species of rodent and then act accordingly using bait and bait stations in a safe and discreet manner. All bait we use is secure. In some cases we may need to utilise the use of spring traps, but these traps will need to be monitored on a daily basis.
We then visit a second time after 7-10 days, inspect the stations and area, replenish the bait and then repeat the process in another 7-10 days. If there is still a problem, we may suggest going onto a maintenance program which is highly recommended in some areas in such cases of holiday homes or if the building is situated in an environment of high rodent activity.
Those who don’t want to/or who are unable to afford a program may like to purchase bait and bait stations. We will offer advice on where to put these in your home or office.
What you can do:

- Cut away overhanging branches – rodents can jump up to a metre.
- Clean regularly behind fridges/stoves and the bottom of pantries so that you can see any new droppings.
- Keep cat and dog biscuits in secure containers.
- Fix any leaking taps or pipes.
- Check gaps under entrance/exit doors, they don’t need much space to get inside. Fix seals to bottoms of doors.
- Pipes exiting through the bottom of sink units sometimes need a tighter seal around them to stop rodents gaining entry via the sub-floor.
- Rodents don’t like being exposed, so keep lawns trimmed around your house.
- Have a lid on your compost and keep an eye around the base for any burrows that may appear.
